Missouri Students Sue School Board Over Book Bans

Two students, with the help of the ACLU, are suing Missouri’s Wentzville School District for banning books from the school library...

The class action lawsuit claims Wentzville violated the students First and Fourteenth Amendment rights “by restricting their access to ideas and information for an improper purpose.”

The books banned from Wentzville libraries include, “All Boys Aren’t Blue” by George Johnson, “Fun Home” by Alison Bechdel, “Heavy” by Kiese Laymon, “Invisible Girl” by Lisa Jewell, “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison and “Modern Romance” by Aziz Ansari.

The school board also voted to ban “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison earlier this year.
