Black Jan 6 Insurrectionist Receives the Harshest Sentence Yet
Troy Smocks, a Black man from Dallas, TX who traveled to Washington, DC at the behest of Donald Trump to attend the January 6 Stop the Steal rally has been sentenced to 14 months in prison...
Smocks, one of the few Black people to attend the rally, has received the longest sentence for any of the January 6 insurrectionists, despite having not set foot in the Capitol.
Smocks pleaded guilty to to one felony count of transmitting threats in interstate commerce after posting threatening messages on his Parler account the day after the riot from his Washington, D.C. hotel room.
Smocks was given nine months time served because he had been in jail since his January 15 arrest.
